Item 4.01 Changes in Registrant's Certifying Accountant. The Audit Committee of the Board of Directors (the "Audit Committee") of Apple Hospitality REIT, Inc. (the "Company") recently conducted a competitive selection process to determine the Company's independent registered public accounting firm for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024. Ernst & Young LLP ("E&Y"), which had previously served as the Company's independent registered public accounting firm, was invited to participate in this process. As a result of this competitive selection process, on February 19, 2024, the Audit Committee approved the appointment of KPMG LLP ("KPMG") to serve as the Company's independent registered public accounting firm for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, and approved the dismissal of E&Y as the Company's independent registered public accounting firm, in each case, effective February 22, 2024, following E&Y's completion of its audit for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2023 on such date. The audit reports of E&Y on the Company's consolidated financial statements for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2023, which were included in the Company's 2023 Annual Report on Form 10-K, and for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2022, which were included in the Company's 2022 Annual Report on Form 10-K, did not contain any adverse opinion or disclaimer of opinion, nor were such reports qualified or modified as to uncertainty, audit scope or accounting principles.
