Notes to Consolidated Financial Statements (Unaudited) (Unless otherwise noted, in millions, except per share data) Note 1: Basis of Presentation The unaudited Consolidated Financial Statements included in this report include the accounts of American Water Works Company, Inc. and all of its subsidiaries (the "Company" or "American Water"), in which a controlling interest is maintained after the elimination of intercompany balances and transactions. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States ("GAAP") for interim financial reporting, and the rules and regulations for reporting on Quarterly Reports on Form 10-Q ("Form 10-Q"). Accordingly, they do not contain certain information and disclosures required by GAAP for comprehensive financial statements. In the opinion of management, all adjustments necessary for a fair statement of the financial position as of March 31, 2024, and the results of operations and cash flows for all periods presented, have been made. All adjustments are of a normal, recurring nature, except as otherwise disclosed.
